Estate Planning – Original documents

Have a will prepared by a professional and updated as necessary. Ensure an ORIGINAL copy is available and the location is filed with the BC Wills Registry of the Vital Statistics Agency.

If you want your vehicle to be left to someone specific, name it in your will so the title transfer isn’t delayed waiting for grant of probate.

Make a list of the value of your assets and debts with registration and account numbers. Specify if they are registered such as RRSP’s, TFSA’s, RRIF’s, life insurance and the named beneficiary(s).

Ensure funds are liquid to pay for funeral costs, probate fees and any ongoing utility bills until real estate can be sold.

Choose an executor(s) and backup executor(s) you can trust to fulfill your final wishes and carry out the instructions in your will in a professional and timely manner.
